Made in Manitoba Expo Held in Portage Details   Category: Local News   Published: Sunday, 02 February 2020 20:30   Written by Josh Jackson

Over 30 vendors from across the province made their way to Portage this weekend For the Made in Manitoba Expo.

The event was held at the MNP Exhibition Hall and gave people from the Central Plains region a chance to sample and learn about Made in Manitoba Businesses and locally made products.

Dead Horse Cider Company made the trip from Winkler to set up a display booth. Owner /Partner Garry Wiebe says it was a good opportunity to showcase their product.

"People seem to like it. We got lots of good comments. The comment I've heard, I don't know how many times today, but a lot, is this is amazing, this tastes great. That's encouraging."

All of their product is crafted on the prairies using locally sourced apples.
He says it's key for everyone to support local.

"That's what we want to do, and that's what we're about. We buy as many Manitoba apples as we can find. We would buy more if we could find them," says Wiebe. "Anybody that has apples and you don't know what to do with them, we will buy them. We also use apples from other places like BC and Ontario just because we have to."

Jody Kardash of Kleo's Cookies and Treats made the trek out from Winnipeg. A lot of her ingredients come from small farms across the province. She gives us a perfect example of why Shopping local is important.

"I saw a picture on the computer that said support local because Amazon's not going to sponsor your kid's baseball team," says Kardash. "Supporting local is buying your neighbours daughter new dance shoes. It keeps the money in the communities."

Patrons of the event also had the chance to get their photo taken with the Grey Cup.
