Crimes like this are reminders how cheap life can be.

Police say a dispute between two men over gym shoes started on a Woodward Avenue bus just north of Selden and spilled onto Woodward Avenue, where the victim was shot in his shoulder and cheek shortly after 12:30 p.m., reports WXYZ's Kimberly Craig. He's in critical condition.

A 30-year-old suspect was caught about a block away with the gun, police said. Authorities don't believe the two men knew each other.

"It's not just the police who won't tolerate this type of behavior," police Capt. Rodney Cox told Erika Ericson of Fox 2. "It's the witnesses and the businesses here in midtown. They'll see to it that they'll give us enough information to take appropriate action."

"When something like this happens, there's other ways to settle that besides resorting to violence. But if you're someone that feels like this is something you have to do and this is how you settle your disputes, we will find you, we will take you into custody and we will hold you accountable."

The video below includes an interview with witness Steve Neavling, a Metro Times reporter.
