The members of the Professional Piddlers Association have completed their last project at the Lake Clare Fitness Park for 2018, which is a bench for people to sit on while watching kids play in the giant sandbox. Anyone with any unused toys that kids might enjoy playing with in the sandbox such as toy trucks, cars, shovels and buckets are encouraged to drop them off at the sandbox for kids to enjoy.

The Piddlers have designed two new obstacles that will replace the military crawl obstacle, which will be moved to the north side of the fitness park next spring. It was determined after weeks of observations that too many participants were bypassing the crawling obstacle because they didn’t want to get sand over all their clothing and shoes and maintaining the obstacle was challenging. The military crawl will be used primarily for special events, but anyone wanting to try out some crawling will still be able to use the obstacle. Fund-raising to pay for the costs of the materials for the new obstacles is now underway.

On Sept. 8, a group of about 40 Navy recruits from Northeast Indiana will utilize the facilities at the fitness park. So far this summer, two Marine recruiting stations have used the fitness park to help prepare new recruits for boot camp.

Organizer Stan Bippus says the fitness park has been used a great deal this summer for family outings and birthday parties.

It is anticipated the park will be closed for the season in late October.
