There’s a reason some exercises never go out of rotation. Perfect these classic moves to get lean and mean.


Having a lean body not only makes you feel good about yourself, but is also good for your health. As we age, we need more endurance and strength for day to day functioning and muscle gain is crucial here. But when you think of building muscles, the first thing that comes to mind is fancy gym equipment. There are, however, other alternatives. Try these simple, classic exercises instead. 


Squats
Squats are a full body fitness staple that work the hips, glutes, quads and hamstrings and also strengthen the core.


Get moving 
Stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Clasp your hands in front yo help keep your balance. Sit down like you’re slipping into an imaginary chair. Keep your head facing forward. Bend your knees and squat down while pressing your weight back into your heels. Keep your tight and bring yourself back to the starting position.


Running/sprinting 
Short, fast sprints can help build muscles in your legs and upper body, besides burning calories. One of the simplest forms of exercises out there, running only requires a good pair of shoes and a strong will to begin. Start slow to avoid injuries.


Get moving 
Try walking at a fast pace to warm up and then break into a slow jog for 15 to 30 minutes. When you get used to it, increase your run time by 5 to 10 minutes every week. 


Push ups 
Apart from building muscles in your arms, push ups work every part of your body. When done correctly m, they can strengthen your chest, abs, shoulders, triceps and core.


Get moving 
Assume a face down position on the floor. Keep your feet together and place your hands palms on your sides. Now balance your weight on the arms and toes and lower yourself until your chest almost touches the floor. Squeeze your glutes together and raise your body. Press downwards and return to the original position.
