TRINITY — The days of Mychael Hamilton breaking free for long runs or quarterback Jakob Mattos making big throws or safety Adam Rogers coming up for a tackle are things of the past for Mitchell’s varsity football team.

All three standouts are graduating and will move on to play sports on the collegiate level. This leave voids in three vital positions for the Mustangs this spring, and Mitchell Coach Andy Schmitz has no shortage of players wanting to take their places.

One player who impressed during Mitchell’s annual Black/Gold scrimmage was running back Tyler Williams, who scored two touchdowns, including an 80-yard scamper. Williams rushed for near 200 yards in the scrimmage and looks to be the heir apparent to Hamilton in the Mustangs’ backfield.

“He’s really done well this spring,” Schmitz said about Williams. “He was a very good player for us on the junior varsity last year and, honestly, could’ve been a varsity player for us, but with Mike (Hamilton) at running back, we just decided that he could get more experience on JV.”

Also impressing during the scrimmage was wide receiver Dimitri Edmond, who will have to try and replace the production left by wide receiver/defensive back Stephaun ‘Tank’ Peters. Though receiver/defensive back Kymmani King is also back for Mitchell, the team is still trying to piece together everything on offense.

Defensively, the Mustangs are solid with King controlling the airwaves in the secondary and linebacker Nick Ferrini and defensive lineman Dominic Marino in the front seven.

Despite graduating some of the best players in program history, the cupboard is certainly not empty over in Trinity.
