INDEPENDENCE -- Margaret L. Hoeck, 83, of rural Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.

She was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Benton County, daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth Becker Carlson. On Oct. 18, 1948, she married Archie Samuel Hoeck in Van Horn; he died in 1992. 

She graduated from high school in Newhall in 1948. Mrs. Hoeck was a homemaker and farm wife and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence.

Survived by: three sons, Louis (Kathryn) of Hazleton, David (Susan) of Golden, Mo., and Ralph (Jean) of Clermont; a daughter, Beverly Michels of Rowley; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Lester (Sandy) Carlson of Brighton, Mo.; and a sister, Frances Hettinger of Masonville.

Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Eldo and Raymond Carlson; and a sister, Agnes Tjaden.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence.
