HAMDEN >> Police are looking for a man who allegedly walked out of a Hamden store wearing stolen sneakers, then fought with an employee when the person tried to detain him.

The loss prevention officer suffered an injury to his finger in the Wednesday night incident at Bob’s Stores, 2200 Dixwell Ave., police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said Friday in a release.

Smith said police responded to the store at about 6 p.m. that night on a report of a shoplifting with violence.

Police found the suspect had tried to walk out with the sneakers, but a loss prevention officer approached him and told him to go to the security office.

Inside the security office, the suspect became agitated and fought with the store employee before fleeing, police said.

Hamden firefighters responded to treat the loss prevention officer’s injuries.

The suspect was described as a white man wearing a black hat and a gray hooded sweatshirt. He was last seen getting into a brown Infiniti.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity is asked to contact Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez at 203-230-4000.
