4 arrested for robbery, assault of New Albany student - wave3.com-Louisville News, Weather Sports

NEW ALBANY, IN (News and Tribune) - Three juveniles were arrested Wednesday in connection with an assault and robbery of a New Albany High School student in October.

The student was sent to Baptist East Hospital’s Emergency Room after several other students assaulted him in October. According to court records, the victim was had serious injuries to his kidney, face, head and back.

The students arrested Wednesday were Graham McCollum, 17, Tyreese Lathan, 16, and Tai’sjhan Winford, 16. They were each charged as adults in Floyd County Superior Court No. 1. A fourth suspect, 19-year-old Jaquan Winburn, New Albany, was arrested Thursday.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the issue started when the victim sent a photo to several people, which he took to insult his ex-girlfriend. Her current boyfriend, McCollum, saw the photo and challenged him to a fight behind the Subway on University Woods Drive.

When he arrived with another friend, they were attacked and beaten by several people, including McCollum, Lathan, Winford and Winburn, according to the court document. The suspects allegedly took money out of the victim’s wallet and his earrings. Another student surrendered his watch and shoes.

McCollum, Lathan and Winford all were arrested Wednesday on charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Winford and Winburn also have two counts of robbery.
