News24xx.com - A self-driving car is the future car in the automotive industry. But the problem is, even though the technology is considered really safe, you still need to convince yourself about it.

That's why Nissan is trying to make it easier for people to get into technology by building something similar on a smaller scale. They want you to have self-driving slippers.

The company developed a set of slippers with ProPilot's semi-autonomous propulsion technology, and applied them to traditional Japanese inns. Located in Hakone near Tokyo, these slippers will drive and park the car of guest at the entrance of the inn by pressing a button, a very pleasant thing for tourists.

Each slipper has two tiny wheels on the bottom, a motor, and sensors to let it navigate across the inn’s floor, weaving through tables, cushions and guests.

But not satisfied with that, Nissan also incorporated the technology into the table and the cushion of the inn as well, so you can see the furniture will crawling around it.

In a press release, Nissan said they wants to entertain hotel guests and reduce staff workloads, but this is also a promotion for Nissan Leaf, a semi-autonomous electric vehicle launched last year.

"Self-parking slippers are meant to raise awareness of automatic drive technology, and the potential for their non-driving applications," a Nissan spokeswoman told Reuters.

ProPilot is currently only able to help keep the driver on their track or take over the cruise control on the highway, but Nissan's plans in the end make all the cars really autonomous.

In the meantime, something like this at least, will make sure that you never wake up from the couch to pick up the remote TV again.
