College After Flip council Drop

A planning inquiry lodged by Exeter College over the Wear Barton homes plan has finally been dropped - after a recent council turnaround.

The inquiry was due to start on Tuesday at the RAMM, because planners had originally thrown out an application for 101 homes and sports pitch on land at Countess Wear in July.

But planners later approved revised plans for the development at the end of October, subject to a Section 106 legal agreement.

That agreement, dealing with mitigation for loss of playing field and other matters, has now been concluded and planning permission will be issued this week.

Exeter College also proposed replacement pitches in the second application, with a small five-a-side area at Wear Barton and adult and junior pitches in Exwick.

Sport England had objected to both applications it on the grounds that the replacement sports pitch was not of equal quality and not in line with national policy on playing fields.

A draft playing pitch audit was under taken which identified that there was not a 'severe' shortfall of pitches in the city.

Planners also received external legal advice.
