Make the most of the tax free holiday according to a commerce expert

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Wisconsin school supplies, computers, clothing and more is state and sales tax free August 1-5. It's the states first ever sales tax holiday and the hype has already started.

However, David Eckmann, the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce CEO, is warning Wisconsinites to make a plan before loading up your shopping cart.

"You really have to be thoughtful about how you're going to spend the dollars and be strategic how you're going to do that" Eckmann said.

He told Newschannel 7 exactly how to be strategic but in order to understand best, we've pulled the list of items that are tax exempt. You can find this description and more information on the Wisconsin Department of Revenue website.

*Clothing – Exempt if $75 or less per item (list is not all-inclusive)
Aprons, household & shop, Athletic supporters, Baby clothes, Baby receiving blankets, Bathing suits & caps, Beach capes & coats, Belts & suspenders, Boots, Coats & jackets, Costumes, not including costume masks sold separately, Diapers, including disposables, Dresses, Earmuffs, Footlets, Formal wear, Garters & garter belts, Girdles, Gloves & mittens for general use, Hats & caps, Hosiery, Insoles for shoes, Jeans, Lab coats, Neckties, Overshoes, Pantyhose, Rainwear, Pants &, rubber pants, Sandals, Scarves, Shirts, Shoes & shoe laces, not including athletic shoes with cleats or spikes, Shorts, Slippers, Sneakers, Socks & stockings, Steel toed shoes, Sweaters, Sweatshirts, T-shirts, Underwear, Uniforms, athletic & non-athletic, Wedding apparel
